SIG library is using KOHA Open Source Library Management Systems as Library Software. The Library has a collection of Books, General Books, Reference Books, National and International Journals, peer review journals, Indian Magazines, News Papers, Geographical Maps, Student’s summer& industry project reports.

SIU has implemented KOHA integrated library Management software for all its constituent units. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of books and other reading material are accessible from any location. General Rules for SIG Students
  • Every person who enters the library has to sign in library entry register
  • Students can issue 3 Books for 15 days. Library Card is a must while issuing of the book.
  • Books returned after Due Date will be charged a fine of Rs.5/- per day.
  • Students can issue 1 Magazine for 2 days.
  • Faculty members can Issue 15 books for 1 month.
  • If Library Card is Lost. Student has to Pay Rs.50/- for duplicate library card.
  • Eatables are not allowed inside the Library & Reading hall.
  • Once read please keep your Book / Magazine / News Paper at the Circulation Counter.
  • Fine is applicable for overdue documents, damage documents, and loss resources etc. Students should pay the fine as per the library rules which are approved by library committee.
  • If library Book/Magazine is lost or misplace by student immediately he/she should report to the library. Whenever student report to library for loss of book his/her daily fine will be stop on the date of reported, else fine will be increase per day Rs.5/- as per the rule.
  • For loss of Book/Magazine student has to replace the new book with the fine. And in case the Book or Magazine is rare/out of print, then actual cost of the book as per the Accession Register has to be paid by the student.
  • Silence has to be maintained in the library

Membership

The student, staff, faculty, visiting faculty and research scholar of Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics are the members of the Library. In exceptional cases an outside member (temporary membership) may be permitted to avail the services of the library as recommended by the Director, SIG Library also issues book to all staff working for Atur Centre Campus.

Rules for the Members
  1. Students, Faculty and Staff of SIG avail the facility by producing the Identity card of the SIG. I-card is the only mandatory criteria to avail SIG library membership.
  2. Members should adhere to the dress code of the institute.
  3. Reading Hall Members should carry their own material for study.
  4. Library will terminate the member in case of misbehavior / violation of rules.

  1. Circulation - Students and faculty member regularly issues the books, Magazine and Journals
  2. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) - We have an OPAC which facilitates members to view issue/return details of books in the library, new books due dates etc.
  3. Due book e-mail alert - An automated alert is sent to the borrower.
  4. New Arrival Books - New Arrival Books list send to all the staff & Students.
  5. Display cover page - new arrival book cover page photo display on Library Notice Board.
  6. Best users of the library- Best users of the library list send to staff & Students and display on Library Notice Board.
  7. Top Circulated books- Top Circulated books list send to staff & Students.

Borrowing Rules
  • Books which are labeled / stamped as reference books are not for borrowing.

  • Library is authorized to declare/hold certain books as reference material according to the demand. The book may not be labeled as Reference material.

  • Old loose issue of magazines only can be borrowed. New/Latest issues and back volumes are for reference only.

  • Borrowing period for particular material can shrink according to the demand.

Web OPAC is an Online Public Access Catalogue which allows library users avail the services of the library using Internet. Every library member gets the access of Web OPAC where he/she can check his/her circulation history, recommend new book titles to the library, create own reading list of favorite books etc.

Library members can get the access of all e-resources on library portal. To access these e-resources you should have the login credentials for it. Every year newly admitted student’s registration is done according to their course duration by the librarian.

Once the registration is completed members get the access of all e-resources purchased by the SIU Central library. All databases, e-books and e-journals can be accessed through this library portal.

National Digital Library

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Shodhganga

The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET is set-up using an open source digital repository software called DSpace developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in partnership between Hewlett- Packard (HP). The DSpace uses internationally recognized protocols and interoperability standards. Shodhganga provides a platform for research scholars to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs (Electronic Theses and Dissertations) submitted by the researchers.

  1. Who can access the library Services?

  2. Students, Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and Staff of Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics can access the SIG library services. Also other institute’s users of Symbiosis can refer the books of SIG Library in the Library Premises only. Identity card is mandatory to enter SIG Library.

  3. How many books a student can get issued?

  7. I have lost the library Book, What I require to do?

  8. First you should immediately report to the circulation desk at the library. In case a book/magazine/Journal is lost; the borrower has to replace the same with the latest Edition/Version of the material. If the copy is out of print then the user has to pay the cost of the material along with the overdue amount of fine within 15 days from the reporting.

  9. How can I access the E-Recourses?

  10. As it is mentioned on the web site under the E-Resources. You can access these databases through the login credentials of SIU Central library Gateway Portal which is been issued to all the registered students of SIG. Those who don’t know the credentials can contact to the library. Only Symbiosis students and faculty can access these databases through their own login credentials.

  11. How can I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?
    Students can give their recommendations through the Web OPAC. Login with your PRN fill the form and submit it. Students can also suggest or recommend the books they want on below e-mail ID : library@sig.ac.in

  12. Is there any fine for delayed books?

  13. Yes, 5/ - Rs fine is charged a day if you make delay.
